Eat Bulaga! Indonesia

Of course, whenever you heard the title, familiar faces always comes to mind. Tito, Vic and Joey alongside as of this writing, with their famous and equally talented hosts Allan K., Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Paolo Ballesteros, Paulene Luna, Ruby Rodriguez, Jimmy Santos, Anjo Yllana, Ryza Mae Dizon and the EB Babes.

According to Wikipedia, Eat Bulaga! is a noon-time variety show in the Philippines produced by Television And Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE) and aired by GMA Network. The show broadcasts from The New TAPE Studios (Eastside Studio) at the GMA Broadway Centrum in New Manila, Quezon City. Eat Bulaga! is aired Weekdays at 12:00pm to 2:30pm and Saturdays at 11:30am to 3:00pm (PHT). The show is also broadcast worldwide through GMA Pinoy TV. The show celebrated its 33rd year on Philippine television last August 18,2012. Eat Bulaga! holds the record of being the longest-running noontime variety program on air in the history of local television.

Well, it says it all. Could anyone imagine a show to last 33 years? They're still counting though and according to Joey de Leon himself, they are eyeing for another 3 decades of airing. As their slogan goes, "Hangga't may bata, may Eat Bulaga!"

Its first overseas version was Eat Bulaga! Indonesia, which premiered on Indonesia's SCTV network on July 16, 2012. Absolutely, it will not be their last! Eat Bulaga! became the first Philippine show, variety show in particular, to be franchised by another country.


Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Television and Production Exponents Inc. (TAPE Inc.) Malou Choa-Fagar,  revealed that SCTV was the first to approach them. Before Program director Harsiwi Achmad moved to SCTV, she has been watching the show on Youtube . Achmad felt that the program was entertaining and education that can spread positive values and get close with the community. Achmad contacted Marketing Creative Service Advisor, Gerry C. Guzman, a Filipino, because she feels that the show would work well with Indonesian audience, who then became a way for the SCTV and Filipino executives to negotiate. Kebon Jeruk, Director of Programs and Production at Studio Penta SCTV, agreed became interested too with the program, saying that he wants the program to be as successful as the original program. Their hosts "(Tuan) Boss" Uya Kuya (Bossing version of EB Indonesia) and Leo Consul who becoming a Filipino host in their series.


The program airs at 2:30PM (Indonesian Time) as an afternoon show, a deviation from the original variety show which premieres at noontime, this was to consider the viewers' prayers time according to Islam. The first season is set for 13 weeks, as a trial period. The hosts of Eat Bulaga! Indonesia are "Boss" Uya Kuya, Farid Aja, Reza Bukan, Ramzi, Narji, Leo Consul, Rian Ibram, Rio Indrawan, Steven Muliawan, Selena , Alesandra, Jenny Tan, Bianca Liza, Christie Julia.


Of course from the original program, Eat Bulaga! Indonesia adapted the games and segments:

  • Jagoan Karaoke (from Pambato ng Videoke)
  • Satu Untuk Semua, Semua Untuk Satu (from Juan for All, All for Juan: Bayanihan of d' Pipol)
  • Indonesia Pintar (from Pinoy Henyo)
  • Kanan Kiri Bumbum Cring! (from Kaliwa o Kanan? Wave, Wave, Wave, Win! Win! Win!)
  • Beandaan (from Bulagaan University)
  • Bolagaan (from Bolagaan)
  • Masak Gokil
  • Merah, Putih (from Kontrapelo: Sa Pula, Sa Puti)

Surely, the people of Indonesia are very pleased as the number one show in the Philippines are being brought to them. Like us Filipinos, there will be a show for them which can cure both the stress and depression deprived from all that is happening around us.

If you ask me what happiness means, well, happiness by definition is Eat Bulaga! and nobody can provide those rather than Tito, Vic and Joey.

The Great Badjang or Giant Taro

As we try to come up with things to do to make our days productive this Pandemic, a lot of people are leaning towards Gardening. I am not that young, though I am not that old to have watched the Manga Series Slum Dunk. A lot of people is being fascinated with the game of basketball. Almost everyone knows how to play the game. Maybe, just maybe, NBA really popularized the sports. Apparently, one story caught my attention, and surely, it is really worth to tell ;-) Slam Dunk (スラムダンク Suramu Danku?) is a sports-themed manga series written by Takehiko Inoue about a basketball team from Shōhoku High School. It was first serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump in Japan from 1990 to 1996 and had also been adapted into an anime series by Toei Animation which had been broadcast worldwide, enjoying much popularity particularly in Japan, several other Asian countries and Europe. Inoue later used basketball as a central theme in two subsequent manga titles: Buzzer Beater and Real. In 2010, Inoue received special commendations from the Japan Basketball Association for helping popularize basketball in Japan.
