Century-old Tablet Serves as a Warning in Japan

"High dwellings are the peace and harmony of our descendants. Remember the calamity of the great tsunamis. Do not build any homes below this point." Short, yet very informative! These were words written in a century-old tablet erected at the hamlet of Aneyoshi, Iwate Prefecture Northern Japan. A simple advice to the people so they will save themselves into further tsunamis that will hit the country. Hundreds of these tablets dots the coastline of Japan, some were 600 years old. All in all, they serve as a warning system for the country, where as far as we know is a repeated target of both earthquakes and tsunamis over the century. Though some of these warning tablets have no indications where to build really. Some of it simply stands there, or stood until a tsunami washed them away. One tablet reads "If an earthquake comes, beware of the tsunamis", but well of course, in the days of modern life, who will remember? For the record, there are more than 12,

The Fragile Ozone Layer

According to UN weather agency, due to the harmful chemicals and a cold winter, the depletion of the ozone layer shielding Earth from damaging ultraviolet rays has reached an unprecedented low over the Arctic this spring. According to WMO or World Meteorological Organization, the Earth's fragile ozone layer in the Arctic region has suffered a loss of about 40 percent from the start of winter until late March, exceeding the previous seasonal loss of about 30 percent. The Geneva-based agency blamed the loss on a buildup of ozone-eating chemicals once widely used as coolants and fire retardants in a variety of appliances and on very cold temperatures in the stratosphere, the second major layer of the Earth's atmosphere, just above the troposphere. According to the UN scientists, Arctic ozone conditions vary more than the seasonal ozone "hole" that forms high in the stratosphere near the South Pole each winter and spring, and the temperatures are always wa

The Amazing Math

You will end up wandering after you read this very simple yet truly amazing mathematical equations ;-) Enjoy ^_^ 1 * 8 + 1 = 9 12 * 8 + 2 = 98 123 * 8 + 3 = 987 1234 * 8 + 4 = 9876 12345 * 8 + 5 = 98765 123456 * 8 + 6 = 987654 1234567 * 8 + 7 = 9876543 12345678 * 8 + 8 = 98765432 123456789 * 8 + 9 = 987654321 1 * 9 + 2 = 11 12 * 9 + 3 = 111 123 * 9 + 4 = 1111 1234 * 9 +5 = 11111 12345 * 9 + 6 = 111111 123456 * 9 + 7 = 1111111 1234567 * 9 + 8 = 11111111 12345678 * 9 + 9 = 111111111 123456789 * 9 + 10 = 1111111111 9 * 9 + 7 = 88 98 * 9 + 6 = 888 987 * 9 + 5 = 8888 9876 * 9 + 4 = 88888 98765 * 9 + 3 = 888888 987654 * 9 + 2 = 8888888 9876543 * 9 + 1 = 88888888 98765432 * 9 + 0 = 888888888 987654321 * 9 - 1 = 8888888888 9876543210 * 9 - 2 = 88888888888 Isn't it amazing?
