PROJECT "SAGIP TULONG NI MONSAY" by RMHSEAAI

Across the Philippines, typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda affected a total of 9.5 million people -- and displaced at least 600,000 -- when it slammed into the country on Friday, November 8 according to the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Though there were, as of this writing, more than 2,300 dead, there were survivors who were described as being in desperate need of clean drinking water and food. You can’t even imagine the pain and agony, unless you witness it firsthand. According to Secretary to the Cabinet Rene Almendras, "In some cases the devastation has been total."   Yolanda, the greatest, even the strongest typhoon in the world this year is estimated to have destroyed about 70 to 80 percent of structures in its path as it tore into the coastal provinces of Leyte, Samar, Cebu and Antique. Officials say that 10,000 may have died after the devastating typhoon that hit the Philippines. As survivors assess the damage, Joseph Curry, with

The Future of Food: World's First Test-Tube Burger

To all health-conscious people, eating meat is definitely a no-no. Though, research shows that we all need meat for its protein content, there were still people who prefer to eat non-meat meals, they are the vegetarians. However, on a recent experiment by a group of scientists, they have successfully cultured a laboratory-grown beef. Scientists unveiled the world's first lab-grown beef burger, serving it up to volunteers in London in what they hope is the start of a food revolution. The team in Maastricht took cells from organic cows and placed them in a nutrient solution to create muscle tissue. They then grew this into small strands of meat, 20,000 of which were required to make the burger. The costs of cultured beef are likely to fall as more is produced and the team claim, although it is very expensive, it could be available in supermarkets within 10 to 20 years. Proponents of test tube meat cite a variety of reasons for why it is worth supporting, from animal

NASA's Curiosity Rover Found Evidence of Water on Mars

There were a lot of explorations done to search for other heavenly bodies on the universe where man could possibly live! Mars is the nearest feasible to explore. Did NASA found something there worth to prove that we could live there? Well, they did more than that. NASA has found out that Mars have once a habitual environment! As a matter of fact, NASA’s curiosity rover has collected compelling evidence that ancient Mars was a very wet place. They were looking for water on Mars? Yes, some of it fit to drink, there’s water, there’s water everywhere. Thanks to discoveries by NASA's Curiosity rover, shown on the right is the picture of ancient Mars that has emerged during the past few months, which has been exploring the Red Planet since touching down inside Gale Crater in August 2012. Presented together recently here at the European Planetary Science Congress, though the announcements have come in dribs and drabs, they provide compelling evidence that Mars was quit

The Golden Rice and It's Health Benefits

When I first heard the idea, I admit, I was a bit curious and confused at the same time. First thing is, why is it orange in colour? The other thing is, how in the world they created a golden rice? According to Wiki, by definition, Golden rice is a variety of Oryza sativa rice produced through genetic engineering to biosynthesize beta-carotene, a precursor of vitamin A, in the edible parts of rice. The research was conducted with the goal of producing a fortified food to be grown and consumed in areas with a shortage of dietary vitamin A, a deficiency which is estimated to kill 670,000 children under 5 each year. By the addition of three beta-carotene biosynthesis genes, Golden Rice differs from its parental strain. In the year 2000, the scientific details of the rice were first published in Science, the product of an eight-year project by Ingo Potrykus of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and Peter Beyer of the University of Freiburg. Golden rice was considered a signific

4 Great Reasons to Eat Chocolate

A day never passes with me taking my daily dose of chocolate. What I like most is to drink it rather than indulging myself with chunks ;-) What's best about chocolate is not it's cravenly taste, it's really good for your health. An August study in the journal Neurology is the most recent evidence of this.  Researchers found that chocolate may help older people keep their brains healthy and their thinking sharp. Study participants showed an 8.3 percent increase in blood flow to the brain who drank two cups of cocoa daily for 30 days, and they improved their scores on memory and thinking tests. Though this new finding is promising, it is not the only health benefit that seems to come as a result of eating chocolate. Above is only one, here are three more reasons why you should not be guilty indulging yourself with chocolate. Heart Healthy  According to a 2012 study in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), daily chocolate consumption may reduce the risk of heart attack
