Yadea Keeness Review: Price, Range, Economy, Durability, Design and Everything You Need to Know
The Yadea Keeness is one of the most interesting electric motorcycles I have come across in the growing EV market. Unlike many electric scooters that are designed primarily for short city trips, the Keeness is clearly trying to look and perform like a proper street motorcycle.
As an electric vehicle reviewer, what immediately catches my attention is the combination of a dual-battery setup, 11 kW peak mid-drive motor, 100 km/h claimed top speed, removable lithium batteries, 17-inch motorcycle wheels, and aggressive naked-bike styling. It is a very different proposition from the typical low-speed electric scooter.
The current Yadea Philippines specifications identify the model as the Keeness DS201 P+, with a 5.5 kW rated motor and 11 kW peak output, dual 72V 32Ah lithium batteries, and a claimed maximum range of up to 129 km under EEC testing.
But specifications alone don't tell the whole story. In this review, I will look at the Yadea Keeness price, performance, battery economy, range, durability, design, comfort, practicality, maintenance, and overall value to determine whether this electric motorcycle is actually worth considering.
Yadea Keeness Price in the Philippines
One of the first questions potential buyers will ask is: How much does the Yadea Keeness cost?
A current Philippine pricing listing places the Yadea Keeness at approximately ₱345,120, although buyers should treat this as an indicative market price rather than a guaranteed official retail price. Pricing can change depending on dealer, promotions, registration, financing, and configuration.
That puts the Keeness into a considerably higher price category than many ordinary electric scooters.
And honestly, I think this is important to understand before getting excited about the motorcycle.
The Keeness isn't really competing against inexpensive 25–45 km/h electric scooters. It is positioned much closer to the performance electric motorcycle category. You are paying for a substantially larger battery system, more powerful motor, motorcycle-style chassis, higher speed capability, larger wheels, and more sophisticated equipment.
For me, the question isn't simply whether ₱345,000 is expensive. The better question is:
What do I get for that money?
And this is where the Keeness becomes interesting.
Performance: The Keeness Is Not Your Ordinary Electric Scooter
The Yadea Keeness uses a mid-drive motor rather than the hub motors found on many electric scooters. The Philippines specification lists the motor at 5,500 watts rated power and 11,000 watts peak power, with a claimed maximum speed of 100 km/h.
Yadea also claims up to 280–300 Nm of maximum torque, depending on the market/specification presentation. The Philippine product page lists 300 Nm in its technical specifications, while Yadea's international material highlights 280 Nm.
This is one of the numbers I would be careful about when comparing it with gasoline motorcycles.
Electric motorcycle torque figures can be measured differently, particularly when manufacturers quote wheel torque rather than motor-shaft torque. So I wouldn't directly compare the Keeness's advertised torque number with the torque figure of a gasoline motorcycle.
What matters to me more is the riding character.
Electric motors deliver torque immediately, which means the Keeness should feel responsive when accelerating from a stop or overtaking traffic. Yadea claims approximately 4 seconds from 0–50 km/h, giving the motorcycle a noticeably stronger acceleration character than typical entry-level electric scooters.
For city riding, that instant response is one of the biggest advantages of electric motorcycles.
Battery and Range
The battery system is probably the feature that makes the Keeness particularly interesting.
The motorcycle uses two removable 72V 32Ah lithium batteries.
Combined, that's approximately 4.6 kWh of nominal battery capacity based on the published voltage and amp-hour figures.
Yadea claims a maximum range of approximately 129 km under EEC testing conditions.
However, as an EV reviewer, I would strongly advise potential buyers not to treat 129 km as a guaranteed everyday range.
Real-world range depends on:
- Rider weight
- Riding speed
- Acceleration habits
- Traffic
- Road elevation
- Wind
- Tire pressure
- Temperature
- Battery condition
- Passenger/load
- Use of lights and electronics
If I were planning my daily commute around the Keeness, I would leave a healthy buffer rather than assuming that the motorcycle will always deliver its laboratory maximum.
The removable battery design is a major advantage, though.
If you live somewhere without convenient motorcycle charging, being able to remove the batteries and bring them to a suitable charging location can make ownership considerably easier. Yadea specifically highlights the removable dual-battery arrangement as a solution to charging anxiety.
Is the Yadea Keeness Economical?
This is where electric motorcycles become particularly attractive.
With a gasoline motorcycle, every kilometer requires fuel. With the Keeness, your primary energy expense is electricity.
Using the approximate 4.6 kWh nominal battery capacity, even charging a completely depleted battery can require dramatically less energy expenditure than buying several liters of gasoline for an equivalent amount of urban riding.
Of course, electricity rates differ and charging losses must also be considered.
There is another feature I like: energy recovery.
Yadea says the Keeness has a smart energy-retrieving system that can recover some kinetic energy during situations such as braking, downhill riding and deceleration.
Regenerative braking isn't free energy. It cannot completely recharge the motorcycle while you ride. But recovering some energy that would otherwise be lost as heat is useful, particularly in stop-and-go traffic.
For someone who rides every day, the potential savings can become meaningful over several years.
Battery Durability
Battery longevity is probably one of my biggest concerns when reviewing any electric motorcycle.
Replacing a battery pack is much more expensive than changing engine oil, spark plugs or other routine gasoline motorcycle consumables.
The Keeness uses lithium batteries and incorporates an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS). Yadea says its BMS incorporates more than 40 protection functions, while the batteries are rated with IPX7 waterproof protection at the system level.
That's encouraging.
The BMS is responsible for important functions such as monitoring battery conditions and helping protect the cells from abnormal operating conditions.
But I wouldn't describe the Keeness battery as "maintenance-free."
Battery capacity naturally declines with age and usage. Yadea itself warns that maximum battery capacity will decrease after long-term use.
For long-term durability, I would therefore pay close attention to:
- Charging habits
- Storage temperature
- Avoiding unnecessary deep discharges
- Proper charging equipment
- Dealer battery support
- Availability and cost of replacement battery packs
The battery technology is promising, but long-term ownership data is still more limited than for conventional gasoline motorcycles.
Yadea Keeness Design
For me, design is one of the Keeness's strongest selling points.
This motorcycle doesn't look like a converted electric scooter.
Yadea describes the Keeness as an urban street electric motorcycle, with an aircraft-wing-inspired body design and a distinctive "shooting star" front lighting signature. The model has also received a Red Dot Design Award, according to Yadea.
I think that's significant because electric motorcycles sometimes struggle with identity.
The Keeness doesn't.
It has the visual language of a modern naked street motorcycle, with a compact body, exposed mechanical-looking areas and a sporty stance.
The published dimensions are:
- Length: 1,990 mm
- Width: 775 mm
- Height: 1,090 mm
- Seat height: 770 mm
- Seat length: 600 mm
The 770 mm seat height should also make the motorcycle reasonably approachable for many riders, although actual comfort will depend on rider height and inseam.
Wheels, Suspension and Handling
Another area where I think Yadea deserves credit is the motorcycle hardware.
The Keeness uses 17-inch wheels, with a 100/80-17 front tire and 130/70-17 rear tire according to the Philippine specification.
That's much closer to conventional motorcycle proportions than the small wheels commonly found on electric scooters.
Larger wheels can contribute to stability and predictable handling, particularly on imperfect roads.
The front suspension uses an inverted fork, while the rear uses a mounted shock absorber. Yadea says the combination is designed to balance handling and comfort.
As someone reviewing a motorcycle rather than simply looking at specifications, this is important.
A 100 km/h-capable motorcycle needs a chassis and suspension setup that inspires confidence. Motor power alone doesn't make a good motorcycle.
Braking and Safety
The Keeness uses a CBS braking system according to Yadea's published Philippine specification.
CBS, or Combined Braking System, links the front and rear braking action to help distribute braking force.
For everyday riders, this can be useful because it can make braking more predictable.
I would still recommend riders take time to understand how the braking system feels before pushing the motorcycle hard.
At 100 km/h, braking performance becomes considerably more important than it is on a 40 km/h scooter.
Comfort and Practicality
Despite its sporty appearance, the Keeness isn't designed purely as a performance machine.
Yadea includes a 16-liter storage compartment, USB charging, a digital display and cruise control.
The combination makes sense for commuting.
The ergonomic design is also intended to provide a comfortable relationship between the rider's arms, back and motorcycle.
I particularly like the fact that Yadea hasn't treated electric motorcycle design as purely about speed.
For a motorcycle intended for daily use, practical features matter.
Storage space, charging convenience, comfortable ergonomics and useful electronics can make a bigger difference to ownership satisfaction than another few kilometers per hour of top speed.
Durability: Can the Keeness Last?
This is where I would give the Yadea Keeness a qualified positive rather than making an absolute claim.
The specifications suggest that Yadea has put considerable effort into durability.
The motorcycle has a substantial chassis, 17-inch wheels, motorcycle-style suspension, lithium battery protection and waterproofing claims. Yadea also specifically lists IPX7 protection for the battery system.
However, durability isn't something I can conclusively judge from specifications.
A motorcycle can have excellent components and still experience problems if its electronics, wiring, battery management, suspension components or replacement parts aren't supported properly over many years.
This is particularly important in the Philippines.
Before buying, I would personally check the local dealer's:
- Warranty coverage
- Battery warranty
- Battery replacement price
- Availability of controllers
- Availability of motor components
- Availability of brake and suspension parts
- Service center network
- Expected parts lead times
For me, after-sales support is just as important as the motorcycle itself.
Yadea Keeness Pros and Cons
What I Like
Excellent styling:
The Keeness looks like a real street motorcycle rather than an oversized electric scooter.
Strong performance:
An 11 kW peak motor and 100 km/h claimed top speed make it genuinely capable of keeping up with normal urban traffic.
Dual removable batteries:
This is one of the motorcycle's biggest practical advantages.
Good claimed range:
The advertised 129 km EEC range is impressive for its class, although real-world range will vary.
17-inch wheels:
These give it a more conventional motorcycle setup.
Modern features:
USB charging, digital instrumentation, cruise control and storage add everyday usability.
What Concerns Me
High purchase price:
At around ₱345,120 based on a current Philippine market listing, this is not a cheap electric motorcycle.
Battery replacement cost:
Long-term battery replacement could be an important ownership expense.
Real-world range:
The 129 km figure shouldn't be treated as an everyday guaranteed range.
Limited long-term ownership history:
Compared with established gasoline motorcycles, there is less long-term data available.
After-sales support matters:
Potential buyers should investigate their local dealer's service and parts availability before purchasing.
Final Verdict: Is the Yadea Keeness Worth It?
After looking at the specifications, technology, design and price, I see the Yadea Keeness as one of the more compelling electric motorcycles for riders who want something substantially more serious than a basic electric scooter.
Its combination of a dual 72V 32Ah lithium battery system, 11 kW peak mid-drive motor, 100 km/h top speed, 129 km claimed range, 17-inch wheels and motorcycle-style suspension gives it a legitimate motorcycle character.
But I wouldn't recommend buying it simply because it's electric.
At roughly ₱345,120 in current Philippine market listings, the Keeness represents a significant investment.
For me, it makes the most sense for a rider who values low running costs, quiet operation, instant acceleration, futuristic technology and distinctive styling, and who has access to reliable charging and Yadea service support.
If your priority is the cheapest possible transportation, there are much less expensive electric scooters.
If your priority is maximum gasoline-style range and easy refueling anywhere, a conventional motorcycle still has advantages.
But if you want something different—something that combines the appearance and road presence of a motorcycle with the quietness and efficiency of electric power—the Yadea Keeness deserves serious attention.
My overall impression is that the Keeness isn't trying to be the electric equivalent of a basic commuter scooter. It is attempting to establish itself as a proper urban electric motorcycle.
And that's exactly what makes it interesting.
Price and specifications can change by market, dealer and model version. Yadea itself notes that specifications, performance and range may vary depending on country, road conditions, rider/load, temperature and riding habits.
