Ryan Gosling Officially Cast as Ghost Rider in the MCU: Everything We Know About Marvel's 2028 Supernatural Blockbuster

However, most industry observers believe he will play Johnny Blaze, the classic motorcycle stunt performer who sells his soul to save his father and becomes the Spirit of Vengeance. Johnny Blaze remains the most recognizable incarnation of Ghost Rider and was previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage in the non-MCU films.

Another possibility would be Robbie Reyes, who appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Marvel has not indicated that direction. Based on the Hall H presentation and fan expectations, Johnny Blaze currently appears to be the strongest possibility.

Shawn Levy Directing the Spirit of Vengeance


One of the biggest surprises surrounding the project is the choice of director.

Shawn Levy has built an impressive résumé by balancing humor, emotional storytelling, and large-scale visual spectacle. His work on Deadpool & Wolverine demonstrated that he understands Marvel's tone while also handling darker material.

Personally, I think Levy is an intriguing choice. His films often balance heart and spectacle, and Ghost Rider needs exactly that. The character cannot rely solely on visual effects; the emotional burden behind Johnny Blaze's curse is what makes the character memorable.

Marvel has not released an official synopsis.

Still, Ghost Rider's comic history provides several likely story directions:

  • Johnny Blaze's deal with Mephisto or another demonic force.
  • The origin of the Spirit of Vengeance.
  • Battles against supernatural villains.
