It's around quarter to twelve midnight here on where I am, and I'm not gonna tell where ;-) I can't find my best position to sleep though my body is begging to rest ;-) So I decided to surf the net and look for something funny, something to amuse myself after hours of hard work, and I'm due to wake 6 AM! Pity!
As I am browsing from the famous YouTube, I came across a stand up comedienne who I found so great and hilarious; I can't help myself to stop laughing the whole show! So I'm gonna share what I've watched with you, yes, you can thank me later ;-)
Presenting, Mr. Russell Peters!
Russell Dominic Peters was born on September 29, 1970 in Toronto, Ontario to Eric and Maureen Peters. He is a Canadian comedian and actor. In 1989, he began performing in Toronto and won a Gemini Award in 2008.
He has set records for sales and attendance at a comedian's performance! In 2007, he was the first comedian to sell out Toronto's Air Canada Centre. In 2009, he sets a sales record in London, and in 2010, he performs for the largest audience in Australia for a standup comedy show.
The family moved to nearby Brampton when he was four. His older brother Clayton now serves as Peters' manager. Peters is Catholic and of Anglo-Indiandescent. Peters regularly features stories about his father in his comedy work. His late father was born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India and worked as a federal meat inspector;
Russell Peters also became a hip hop "junkie" in his youth. He was a well-connected DJ in the Toronto scene by the 1990s.
You might ask yourself why you didn’t know him, worst is, why you didn’t even heard of the man…
Chris Rock calls him the “most famous person nobody’s ever heard of.” Lisa Lampanelli said, “It’s like he has no real recognition here, yet the guy has 10 Bentleys.”
Peters is not completely unknown. The majority of his fanbase may exist primarily within the Desi diaspora, but he still managed to become the first comic to perform at Brooklyn’s recently built Barclays Center in front of a sold out crowd of 20,000. That fact makes Geof Willis, President of Live Nation Comedy, very happy.
Peters exploded in 2004 after video clips from his third special went viral on the Internet. In just a few months, he had amassed a large following of loyal fans.
When asked about America’s dismissal of his success, Peters is reluctant to express any sign of defeat. He categorizes himself as the nerd who possesses all the qualities of an entertainment juggernaut but, for whatever reason, the in-crowd just doesn’t want to bother. “I’d love to have a television show or do a bunch of movies, but this town is like high school,” he says. “If you’re not in with the cool kids, then it doesn’t matter how funny you are. You’re just not in.”
Sad but true, fame isn’t just for everyone! Though laughing after watching him on his shows, there’s always a story behind every laugh. Now that you know the person, who knows, he might get the fame he deserves… I’ll keep my fingers crossed!
Cheerio!
