When we say budget, we mean that you can start any of these without spending a pretty penny. Whether you decide to do any of these as a sideline or a home-based business, it’s all up to you. The fun part is, you can try all of the following then decide later on what suits you best. Take all the time you need, as what they say in business, it’s always never too late to start one ;-)
10. DESKTOP PUBLISHING
If you are armed only with desktop publishing software and templates readily available almost everywhere and you can make a decent flyer or brochure, you should be proud of yourself. Not everybody can do that! Now, if you do posses the required talent, skill and creativity, then purchase a best quality printer, the magic begin. You can start your own publishing company! Yes you can provide brochures and other marketing collaterals for individual or corporate clients. What’s better is that you can even operate thru your own home or have this job as your sideline.
9. VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
You might ask what the heck a virtual assistant is. Well, they’re the ones who provide administrative and business support to corporate that do not need in-house employees for tasks like taking and returning telephone calls, sifting through e-mail and other administrative tasks related to customer service. If you can imagine a remote receptionist service that is customized according to the client’s needs, this is basically what a virtual receptionist is.
8. INTERNET RESEARCH
This is basically a person or a group of people who provides internet research for corporations, law firms and other companies. Though don’t jump in that chair yet as you think what’s suited for you is this! This is not the type where you can sit on that chair then find everything on Google; the internet researcher must have library research skills and be knowledgeable about how to access databases and other information sources on the Web. This is much harder than it sounds! Now, go back in that seat and read on ;-)
7. TUTORING
Are you a work-at-home mom? A college student perhaps, who need to earn money on the side, if you know what I mean ;-) Seriously, this job might be great for you. There were a lot of nationalities who want their kids to learn English language, and probably the best medium to get all that is through the net. There were also potential foreigner clients who want to hone their command of the English language not to mention those grade school and believe it or not, even high school students who need help with their homework.
6. ARTS and CRAFTS
A lot of people have ventured into this. They create their unique products and sell them online. I remember visiting one web site where the seller paints a pair of shoes with great tribal graphics, and it really looks cooler than the original design, their clients piled on. In this venture, your imagination is your limit, though sometimes, a lot of potential buyers want to design their own so you have to be more flexible about that. You must have to possess both sales and e-commerce savvy aside from being creative and enthusiastic. Believe me when I say there’s money in this, plus you will have all the time to practice your artistry.
5. GIFT BASKETS MAKING
Remember corporate giveaways? Who wouldn’t! You must be packaging your arts and crafts in attractive gift baskets. It is so important to put the word out there about your line of business because organizations are always looking for corporate giveaways. You can even tap all the social media available to promote your business, right?
4. IMAGE CONSULTANT
You can try image consulting as a home-based business if you know yourself that you have a reliable and strong sense of style and possess knowledge of personalities and communication. There were a lot of internet users who, say, lacking in the confidence, personality development and even on the fashion field. Just have it in mind that an image consultant must sincerely want to help others achieve their goals through a positive self-image.
3. PARTY PLANNER
You might have tried this without you knowing! During grade school maybe, or even during your high school days. Have you tried to plan a birthday event for a friend? This is pretty much like that. You can try to start small, maybe plan an event for a children’s party. You can sense right there and then if you can handle the job. The primary requirements for this job are love for children and love for costumes and decoration planning. If you’re in this field already, this must be a walk in the park for you. You can develop themes for party favors, décor, costumes and don’t forget the menu as those children will kill you without that. You have to do all these to offer varied choices to your potential clients.
2. HERB FARMING
Want to venture on a food market, this is just for you. Nowadays, as more people are turning to vegetarians, turning to organic food, you can be a small-time herb farmer. Literally a farmer! You can try to start growing herbs like basil, oregano, tarragon, I don’t even know what tarragon is, and a lot more. No, I don’t think weed is a great idea! What’s great is you can plant these at your own backyard! Ow, you don’t have a backyard… Just plant it anywhere you like, will you! What’s even better is that these herbs can be grown all year round, in sunny rooms or greenhouses. There is a healthy demand both for fresh and dried herbs.
1. STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS
You can‘t deny that photography is addictive! You even skip your dinner to earn enough to buy that DSLR, I know, I’ve been there! If you think that only big agencies can undertake this business, you’re mistaken! This venture has great potential returns for you if you can take decent photos, or at least someone thinks that you can! Of course, you still have to be some kind of an internet savvy and have a modicum of marketing skills. There are a lot of media companies who are looking for affordable and unique stock photos that they can use for their publications. Though come on now, taking pics of yourself naked is not cool, I’ve tried that!
Still thinking you have the guts to start any one from the list? Well, I envy you. I’m due to take web design and development from a reputable computer school if I can afford to go, I can’t even refill my coffee mug with real coffee if you know what I mean. Well, I’m off!
Cheerio!
