The Latest Version of the Game Medal of Honor, Plot Location: Basilan, Philippines

Yes right you have read it correctly, the latest version of the game Medal of Honor is concentrated on rescuing hostages from the Abu Sayyaf group based on Basilan, Philippines.

According to Wiki by definition,  Abu Sayyaf (Arabic: جماعة أبو سياف‎; Jamāʿah Abū Sayyāf, ASG, Filipino: Grupong Abu Sayyaf) also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya is one of several military Islamist separatist groups based in and around the southern Philippines, in Bangsamoro (Jolo and Basilan), where for almost 30 years various Muslim groups have been engaged in an insurgency for an independent province in the country. The name of the group is derived from the Arabic ابو, abu ("father of") and sayyaf ("Swordsmith"). The group calls itself "Al-Harakat Al-Islamiyya" or the "Islamic Movement".

Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, assassinations and extortion in what they describe as their fight for an independent Islamic province in the Philippines.

Abu Sayyaf seeks the establishment of an Iranian-style Islamic theocracy in the southern Philippines. Their forces in Basilan and in Zamboanga Peninsula were, by June 2003, believed to number less than 500, down from more than 1,000 a year earlier. They uses mostly grenades, bombs (modified IED's and land mines), machine guns, rifles, rocket launchers and other weapons have been reported.

The United States Department of State has classified the group as a terrorist by adding it to the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. Fighting Abu Sayyaf became a mission of the American military's Operation Enduring Freedom and part of the U.S. War on Terror in 2002. The CIA has deployed paramilitary officers from their elite Special Activities Division to hunt down and kill or capture key terrorist leaders. Several hundred United States soldiers are also stationed in the area to mainly train local forces in counter terror and counter guerrilla operations, but as a status of forces agreement and under Philippine law are not allowed to engage in direct combat.

The Abu Sayyaf are also a part-time operating criminal gang, where they conduct drive-by-shootings, larceny, drug dealing and excess theft in Mindanao.

On the other hand, Isabela City (Officially the "City of Isabela"; Zamboangueño Chavacano: Ciudad de Isabela ; Tagalog: Lungsod ng Isabela) is a 4th class city and the capital of the province of Basilan, Philippines. The city is located on the northern shore of Basilan. Across the Basilan Strait to the north is Zamboanga City.

While administratively, the island province of Basilan is part of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), Isabela City itself is in not part of this region and is placed under the Zamboanga Peninsula region.

And now, Electronic Arts, one of the game giants known today, has released a new gameplay movie from Medal of Honor: Warfighter, a game which follows the 2010 Medal of Honor reboot that moved the series out of World War II into war-torn Afghanistan and introduced the U.S. Tier 1 Operator. Medal of Honor Warfighter goes beyond Afghanistan and takes the fight to the enemy in missions that have a dotted line to real world events, in the works at Danger Close Games. From rescuing hostages in the Philippines to eliminating the pirate threat on the Somali Coast, the game is an up close and personal look into the fight against today's global terror threat. Medal of Honor Warfighter tells the personal story of U.S. Tier 1 Operator "Preacher", as he returns home only to find his family torn apart from years of combat deployment. Trying to pick up the pieces and salvage what remains of his marriage, Preacher is reminded of what he’s fighting for - family. But when a deadly explosive known as PETN penetrates civilian borders and his two worlds collide, Preacher and his fellow teammates are sent in to do what they do best - solve the problem.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will launch on October 23rd, 2012, for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

When I heard the news on TV, it was really exciting come to think of it! Imagine our country, the Philippines was being featured on a game? Well, the excitement didn't last long, and yes don't take your grudge on the sofa, better yet, write a huge gigantic sign and run into the embassy to have a protest against this. Come on, they're featuring the Philippines negatively! Well some say negative nor positive, it's still great publicity, right? It's really more fun in the Philippines after all! According to Basilan City Mayor, they have no knowledge whatsoever that the game is based on a true events as the game itself claims. The fun part is, on the game, you will hear a lot of familiar language while playing it like; "granada", "takbo na" and more, and I admit, its fun to hear all that on a game really ;-)

Well, I'll leave it to you guys. For me, seeing some familiar places, like the Basilan City Hall seems to be fun. In a way, I do feel proud that I see some part of the country in a game that is so popular as the Medal of Honor ;-)
