4-Time NBA Champion Klay Thompson of Golden State Warriors Surprised Cancer Patient Filipino American Joseph Tagaban via Make A Wish Foundation

If you are a basketball fan, specifically the NBA, you probably known a Golden State Warriors basketeer or cager Klay Thompson. Well, just to refresh your memory and get to know him better, Klay Alexander Thompson was born February 8, 1990. He is a four-time NBA champion with the Warriors, he is a five-time NBA All-Star, a two-time All-NBA Third Team honoree and was once named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. He has also won gold medals with the United States national team on their 2014 World Cup team and 2016 Olympic team. Thompson played college basketball for three seasons with the Washington State Cougars, where he was a two-time first-team all-conference selection in the Pac-10 (now Pac-12). He was selected in the first round of the 2011 NBA draft by Golden State with the 11th overall pick. Lapulapu or Lapu-Lapu, whose name was first recorded as Çilapulapu, was a datu of Mactan in the Visayas. Modern Philippine society regards him as the first Filipino hero because of his resistance to imperial Spanish colonization. He is best known for the Battle of Mactan that happened at dawn on April 27, 1521, where he and his warriors defeated the forces of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and his native allies Rajah Humabon and Datu Zula. Magellan's death ended his voyage of circumnavigation and delayed the Spanish occupation of the islands by over forty years until the expedition of Miguel López de Legazpi in 1564. Today, November 30, we Filipinos are commemorating the 148th birthdate of one of our heroes Andres Bonifacio. It's funny though that when you ask a certain student who Andres Bonifacio is, you could see a puzzled look as well as funny grin.  A lot of students nowadays have no clue who Andres Bonifacio is, they didn't even know why we commemorate this date. Dra. Fe Del Mundo

Dra. Fe Del Mundo, born November 27, 1911 is known to be a Filipino Pediatrician. She is the first woman admitted as  a student at the Harvard Medical School. She founded the first pediatric hospital in the Philippines. She was given international recognition because of her pioneering work in pediatrics in the country in an active medical practice that spanned long 8 decades. That includes the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service in 1977. She was conferred the rank of National Scientist of the Philippines in 1980 and in 2010, she was conferred the Order of Lakandula. She died just recently, August 6, 2011 after she suffered from cardiac arrest. She was burried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. Some of us didn't know much about the late Dra. Fe Del Mundo. I for instance know the name well but her works were somewhat out of my knowledge. Dra. Fe Del Mundo was noted for her pioneering work on infectious diseases in Philippine communities.
