Yes it is given that we Filipinos are not that tall especially when we are being compared to the western people. But as it is for world record, specifically the Guinness, the next to be crowned as the smallest man is actually a Filipino.
Meet June Rey Balawing, a 17-year old teenager who stands merely 22 inches, just about the size of a glass bottle. He currently resides at Zamboanga Del Norte, proud enough to be about the next smallest man in the world.
Comes June will he be celebrating his 18th birthday, he will shave another 5 inches of the current Guinness World Record.
He surely is excited to be crowned soon, though he struggles to walk and can't stand for long. He claims that "If I were the smallest man in the world, it would be very cool!"
During his early years, say when he was 2, his 35-year old mother Concepcion brought him to the hospital as she thinks that there were something wrong with him but no doctor was able to help. Her mother said "He was always sick and we noticed he wasn't growing so we took him to see a doctor but they were baffled."
When he turned 12, the family came back to consult the doctors again but they only advice them to give June Rey vitamins, but unfortunately they can't afford it.
"I would love to be able to work while my other children are at school but I can't leave June Rey. He needs my care every minute of everyday. June Rey can only walk with some help and he can't stand for too long because he's in too much pain. But he loves it when I tell him he's the smallest man in the world, he just smiles with pride." She exclaims.
According to Guinness, 24-year old Niqo Hernandez of Colombia is the current smallest man in the world who stands 27 inches.
